Electric Car DVDs for Sale!

by Ben N on January 8, 2011

While I made the video BUILD YOUR OWN ELECTRIC CAR: CHEAP this summer, I have really never gotten around to promoting it.

I figured the best way would be with a YouTube video. So here it is.

To place an order, click here.

All sales of the instructional video help me continue my work promoting clean transportation, and assisting non-profit groups and co-ops.

congratulations for the project. You have worked hard and it look promising.
As the project has changed quite a bit, I wonder if you can answer me some questions
How many volts does your motor run on, how many Watts is it nominally rated to give, how many amps does it draw and what is your “cruising” speed and range only on batteries?

I have been running the car for some time on 72V. 6 x 12V 100ah AGM batteries.
The car will cruise at 35-40 mph using about 100 amps, so 72V x 100a = about 7Kwatts while zipping along. That’s double what the 3500 watt generator can put out, but I am further limited by the rating of the battery charger. I am working on a dedicated charging circuit that can make full use of the power output of the generator.

Just discovered your website this am and was delighted with everything you’ve accomplished and with your willingness to share your experience. I often wondered if someone had tried to use a small generator as a trip extender. Looks like a viable concept. Question: Can you let the generator run while the car is parked, eg, while shopping? We need a Ev which could make a 70 mile round trip w/o any hassles on dark , hilly country roads.

Yes, the experimental hybrid setup is designed to be able to charge the car while parked.

All the new commercially available electric cars will be able to do a 70 mile round trip. That’s a bit much for a home-built car on lead-acid batteries. You could do it with Lithiums.

Not good news to hear that, the new EV cars are way out of my price range. Only way I can ever own a EV is to DIY using your plans and DVDs.
