Books

People sometimes ask me which books I recommend to learn more about working on electric vehicle projects.

The latest I really enjoyed was Micah Toll’s DIY Lithium Batteries: How to Build Your Own Battery Packs.
The 136 page book really walks you through the basics of battery types and chemistries and then quickly gets into how they work, and how you build packs. It demystifies BMS, and covers practical aspects, such as how you actually use shrink wrap to finish a pack. The last section of the book is sample projects – ranging from a simple power bank all the up to an electric car battery pack.

Highly recommended.

I also just got a copy of ICE FREE: Electric Vehicle Technology for Builders and Convertors, by John Hardy. Haven’t read it yet, but it looks good!

There are LOTS of great books out there to get you started on converting a car to electric. Check some out at your local library, or check out this list of books on Amazon!
