Ridesharing, now available on iPhone…

by Ben N on November 23, 2010

For a while, I have thought it would be great to help start up some sort of local ride-sharing or car-sharing program.

However, I have no idea how I would start something like that. I also don’t know if my immediate area has the population density to support it or not.

Today, somebody shared with me some software designed to connect drivers and passengers. It’s really an interesting idea.
The software uses GPS to track location of the passenger and driver to match the two. It also tracks distance and even billing, to share the cost of the ride. With this software, anyone could instantly start their own “ride sharing business”.

I love the concept, in that it is all based on a large group of individuals, there’s no central taxi or bus company.
